Justice
Statement and Reflecction

Justice Statement
Justice is a word we use frequently without much thought, but what is its meaning?
Many begin their discussions of justice by thinking about the utilitarian approach. This refers to the idea of doing things that will maximize the utility for the greatest number of people in society–the greatest good principle.

Rawlsian Justice to Development as Freedom
Rawls shifted the conversation to the greatest level of happiness for each individual. Amartya Sen shifted us away from “utility” or “happiness” to “capabilities.” He wanted to maximize the capabilities of each individual to achieve whatever end they sought or desired.
